The Gear, Equipment, and Software I use for Adventure Elopements, Intimate Weddings, and Adventure Couple Sessions (as a petite woman)

The struggle of being a petite woman photographer is all too real at times. There’s the struggle of our height and the amount of gear that we are physically able to carry, this forces me to take a minimalist approach when deciding on what kind of gear to bring during each of my photoshoots. Luckily for me, I value quality over quantity and don’t let these limitations affect the quality of experience and photos that I provide. Essentially what this all means is that I have to be more resourceful and more creative when thinking about composition and in terms of gear, I carry a smaller pack than most and carry less gear than most. But hey! On the bright side, I get to spend less money on heavy lenses and checked baggage in the airport. For those curious, here is what I currently use to photograph my couples!

As I continue to grow in this field, this list will continue to change. Come back as updates happen!

Side note: I do not bring all of this with me on every session

Camera Gear:

Camera Bodies: Sony a7III (thinking of upgrading my backup to a Sony a7rIII- I used to own the rII but hated it’s inability to focus quickly) & Sony a7iv (love love love the a7iv). The reason for choosing Sony in particular boils down to its weight and size. What’s beautiful about Sony’s mirrorless system is how much smaller and lighter they are in comparison to its competitors. Now, I’ve owned both Canon and Nikon cameras in the past, albeit they were DSLRs at the time but with how much I travel and hike with my cameras, Sony hands down has been the lightest option for someone who only weights 95 lbs.

Camera Lenses: Sony 35mm F1.4 GM (hands down best travel lens if you want to travel minimally and want to only take one lens), Sony 85mm F1.4 gm (the compression is *chefs kiss for couples portraits), Sony 24-70mm f2.8 gm (my all time favorite lens for the versatility factor)

Camera Accesories:

Batteries: 3 Sony batteries

Flash: Godox v860 III for Sony E Mount

Card Reader: SonyMRW-G2 CFexpress Type A / SD Card Reader

SD Cards: SD 128 GB 200mb (I own several of these - one thing to keep in mind when choosing SD cards is how fast it can write photos to your camera)

Dual Battery Charger: ProMasterSony Dual Battery / Charger Kit

External Memory: SanDisk - Extreme Portable 2TB External

Camera Bag: WANDRD PRVKE LITE 11 L or Osprey backpack with camera cube insert (still looking for that backpack unicorn haha). For my petite ladies, the WANDRD PRVKE LITE fits well for casual shoots but I would not recommend using it for hiking elopements or photoshoots. The hip strap could be better designed to increase comfortabililty

Dual Camera Harness: Rose Anvil Bandit Camera Harness - Love this harness, it fits my frame well and is overall comfortable (I still need to break in the leather so it’s even softer and more comfortable)

Camera clip: Peak Design Camera Capture Clip (Love this for when I’m hiking and don’t want to put my camera away)

Additional Light Source: Aputure MC

Tripods: Peak Design Travel Tripod or Manfrotto Tripod (I wish had purchase the carbon fiber option for the peak design tripod. My manfrotto tripod is lighter in comparison but isn’t as compact)

Software I use:

Photo editing: Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop

Client Management System: Unscripted (currently thinking of moving to Dubsado)

Client Gallery Delivery: Pic-time (I don’t see myself changing from Pic-time any time soon! I love how easy it is to navigate from a client and host perspective)

Computer: Custom built PC (would anyone like a more detailed list of what the components of my PC are?)

Hiking photography equipment:

Lanterns: LED Vintage Lantern

Headlamps: Petzl Actik Core Headlamp

Hiking Boots: Danner Mountain 600

Satellite Phone/ GPS: Garmin Inreach Explorer + (Sadly, they no longer make this model but here are some alternatives)
