Sunrise Couple Photo Session near Mt Rainier - Kimmy & Reed

Not many things equate to experiencing a sunrise overlooking the beauty of Mt Rainer, let alone encapsulating the moment in a frame. Such a reward called for equal effort as the journey to the location was not an easy one. A 2 hour long drive only to find the signs at the trailhead battered and worn. Pressing onward through the dark we hiked, with each step the air growing thinner and thinner. The hike though only a mile and a half left us breathless due to the extreme elevation gain. Peaking through the trees we see a sliver of pink, the sun was rising and giving us a moment to pause and appreciate the warmth we had been without. As the sun rose so did we, the fatigue in our legs disappearing as we raced the sun to the peak. The payoff was well worth the effort we put in as we stood at the top alone. Sharing the amazing view of Mt Rainer in all her beauty with no one but ours. Stealing her for a brief moment from the rest of the world. From her frosted veil to the vast forest at her feet, Mt Rainer stood immovable. The feeling I got from seeing the alpenglow for the first time is what I believe what seeing the northern lights must feel like.

For those who aren’t familiar with alpenglow, it is an optical phenomenon that appears as a horizontal reddish glow near the horizon.

Finally snapping out of the dreamlike state we were all in, we decided to get to work. Posing and framing had to be efficiently done because it was literally a race against the sun. Making every shot count while still enjoying the shoot altogether felt effortless. Sharing this moment with people with common interests made the morning all the more enjoyable. Like the sunrise, I watched their faces begin to light up throughout the session. Capturing them with such an amazing view was an honor and a beautiful memory for myself as well. I would like to extend my gratitude to this couple for taking part in this adventure with me.
